
It will generate 1.5 megawatts, supply power for up to 400 homes, pay for itself in eight years (it lasts over 20 years), and save Salem almost $600,000 in electricity costs, plus it’s a symbol of a community looking forward… but Marblehead doesn’t like it at all. It will be too noisy, the Marbleheaders say. They should have been there when the seaplanes landed ten times a day in the 60s. Do they remember the venting of the plant’s stacks and the black smoke billowing out and heading straight for their houses? How noisy can a wind turbine be?
