Shalane Flanagan to run in London Olympics marathon

June 10, 2012

After the bronze medal she earned in the Beijing Olympics, Shalane set her sights on running marathons. She qualified in the Houston Marathon in January, winning the race with a corse record of 2: 25.38. To win the gold she will have to finished under 2:20 or better. She knows that anything can happen. The Marblehead native (Class of 2000) plans to continue training and getting stronger and faster. She was quoted as saying, ” … to have an Olympic medal … it’s so hard to come by. It’s its own entity by itself. It’s the ultimate high for an athlete to achieve a goal like that. I know I could have my best day ever and not win a medal in London. I am very focused on getting the yes out of myself.”1

And, as se said, “anything can happen.”
