Kayla Harrison wins a Gold Medal in Olympic Judo

August 3, 2012

Lynn Judo teacher, Jimmy Pedro, is known around the world but not so much right here on the North Shore. But Kayla came here from an abusive relationship, if that’s the correct word, with her previous coach, Daniel Doyle. Doyle is serving a ten-year prison sentence as a result of his abuse of Harrison.

In the London Olympics, Kayla dominated her four opponents during a tough day of competition and then found herself on the highest step of the podium as the American National Anthem was played in her honor, gold medal hanging down over her white judogi.

She has currently applied for a position on the Marblehead Fire Department. She has EMT credentials. Her fiance is also a Marblehead firefighter.
